Gesha knew that she was different when she was old enough to want to play with the other children. She was not allowed to. She did not know her mother or father, as at a young age she was taken to the temple high above the village, where she lived with the elders at the base of a mountain. She grew up not knowing her name. The elders called her Divine Child.

The elders treated her well enough… Let her eat as much as she wanted, but she didn’t want much. Let her play as much as she wanted, but she wanted to play with the children whom she would sometimes see visit the elders. They said kind things to her, and told her she was important. The most important person in the village; in the world.

One day while she sat in her room, a faerie slipped in on a ray of sunlight from a hole in the wall. Gesha had never seen a faerie, or much of anything before. The faerie was green like the grass which grew just outside. It spoke in riddles to Gesha, asked her questions she didn’t know the answers to, and then asked her name.

“Divine Child? That’s not a name,” The faerie said in a sparkly, bright voice which seemed to echo unnaturally.

“It’s what they call me,” Gesha said as she sat in her quiet room, watching the faerie gently float around. Rays of sun peeked in, making specks of dust light up as they passed through.

“I’ve never named before, but now’s my chance!” the faerie bubbled with twinkling light.
